West Asia crisis:A region under rising tensions
The situation in West Asia has become tense in recent weeks. What started as limited conflict is now slowly spreading and involving more countries and groups. At the centre of the crisis are rising tensions between Iran and Israel. Both sides have taken actions that have increased the risk of further conflict. Another key development is the involvement of group's aligned with Iran. The Houthis in yamen have carried out attacks, indicating a widening of the conflict. At the same time Hezbollah in Lebanon remains active and could open another front if tension rise further. The conflict is no longer limited to a single area. It is spreading across different parts of West Asia increasing the chances of a multi front situation. This has raised concerns about the possibility of a prolonged and more complex conflict. There are also concerns about key maritime routes in the region. These routes are important for the transportation of oil and goods. Any disruption could affect global supply chains and trade flows. The race has major powers has become increasingly important. The USA extended support to Israel and increased its military presence in the regions as a precautionary measure. Israel has continued its operations stating security concerns. On the other hand Russia and China have called for restraint and emphasised the need for dialogue. While they have avoided direct involvement both, countries are closely monitoring the situation due to its global impact. Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, but there has been limited progress so far. The situation remains fluid with developments changing rapidly. West Asia is facing a period of heightened instability. The coming weeks will be crucial in determine whether the crisis remains limited or develop in to a wider regional conflict. Written by-Aman Vikal
